History of Bands in ND Area

September 9, 1949 - The entire community was jubilant when word was received that the Odon-Madison school band had secured first place honors in marching and playing at the State Fair Marching contest at Indianapolis. Twenty-four bands participated in the completion. A celebration in the community was waiting for the band when they arrived in town. The band, after an organized display of appreciation was shown, went to the American Legion building for soft drinks and sandwiches served by the local businessmen. [The band was directed by Mr. Raymond Blair at this time. It is also noteworthy that in 1950 Mr. Blair led them to a 5th place finish. The Odon-Madison School Band then placed 1st again in 1951 under Mr. Blair's direction.(the preceding information courtesy of www.indianatrackmarchingbands.com and www.indianafieldmarchingbands.com)
